California Court Certified Mandarin Interpreter — Mandarin & Shanghainese
I'm Sam Yu, a California court certified interpreter for Mandarin (No. 301482), interpreting in legal settings. Shanghainese is available too — a dialect that is hard to find interpreters for. Remote by phone or video nationwide; in person in California by arrangement.

Where I interpret
Consecutive and simultaneous interpreting between English and Mandarin or Shanghainese for:
- Depositions and examinations under oath
- Court hearings and trials
- Mediations and arbitrations
- Attorney–client meetings and witness preparation
- Phone and video calls with Chinese-speaking clients or witnesses
Shanghainese interpreting
Many older speakers from Shanghai and the surrounding region are most comfortable in Shanghainese (Wu Chinese) rather than Mandarin. Testimony is clearer and more accurate in the language the speaker actually thinks in.
If you're not sure whether your client or witness needs Mandarin or Shanghainese, tell us where they grew up and we'll help you decide.
